President Jakaya Kikwete will on Tuesday grace the 5th General Meeting of the Local Authorities Pension Fund which is, for the first time, being held in Arusha this year.
According to the Director General of LAPF Mr Eliudi Sanga, the meeting
taking place at the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC), has
attracted more than 500 local participants in addition to invited guests
from the other four East African Countries of Burundi, Uganda, Kenya
and Rwanda; “We also invited delegates from Zambia,” said Mr Sanga.
“President Kikwete has agreed to be with us on Tuesday, which is the
second day of our General meeting here,” said Mr Sanga. The LAPF
conference was officially opened by Ms Hawa Ghasia the Minister of State
in the President’s Office for Public Service Management.
The Arusha-held LAPF General Meeting is being attended by officials from
other social security funds, including NSSF and PPF as well as the
Social Security Regulatory Authority in addition to Regional and
District Commissioners and their respective Administrative Secretaries
from all over the country.
The theme for the LAPF General Meeting is “Social security and economic
growth,” and among the papers being presented is how “to prepare for
retirement,” right from the beginning of one’s employment. The meeting
is also executing some health themes being one of its social and
corporate responsibilities and this year the topic on the focus is
“prostate cancer,” a disease which has started to claim the lives of
aged, male Tanzanians.
